A sociopolitical group, South East Youth Coalition for Progress, SEYCP has called on the people of South East to desist from participating in any form of protest against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
In a press release made available to news men, the group highlighted some of the reasons for their submission, they urged Ndigbos to continue to show their entrepreneurial spirit.
The press release reads as follows
At our national convention held today, 18/07/2024, in Enugu State, we reviewed the current events in the country as they affect the plight of Ndigbos both at home and in other parts of the country. We resolved:
1. To call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to engage critical stakeholders in the zone to find the best possible ways to ensure peace returns to our zone. All means should be on the table, including finding political solutions to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We believe his release will reduce tension in the zone.
2. To enjoin the Federal Government to expedite actions in alleviating the peak sufferings in the land occasioned by the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira. The constant donation of palliatives to state governors has failed its purpose. We advise that the suspended conditional cash transfer be restructured to get directly to the masses.
3. On the issue of the proposed protest in some quarters, we categorically made it clear that Ndigbos will not be part of this. We cannot afford to be seen as pushing for regime change, considering the bad blood created by the last election has not cleared entirely.
4. We understand how brutal security agencies can be when it relates to matters concerning Ndigbos. To avoid loss of lives and destruction of our people’s properties, we enjoin everyone to remain peaceful and go about their normal duties. We are entrepreneurial by nature; no matter how bad it gets, we always find a way to survive.
5. We commend the Federal Government on the ongoing infrastructural development in the South East and ask that more be allocated to us in the spirit of fairness, equity, and justice.
6. We call on our governors to look inwards in developing our region.
